Mothers Day 2015

Banksia integrifolia, commonly known as coast banksia - picture by A J Guesdon, 2015

Happy Mother's Day to all mums here and everywhere, and all our love to our very own. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

'A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.'

Washington Irving, 1783 – 1859

“Just add water”; Ginger leads MC38 Autumn Regatta

MC38 Autumn Regatta, May 9-10, 2015 hosted by the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron at Kirribilli and racing on Sydney Harbour -  9 MAY 2015

The advice to Andrew Hunn coming in as guest skipper on Leslie Green’s MC38 Ginger for the second stage Autumn Regatta was “just add water”. Given Ginger’s track record, the seasoned steerer but MC38 class blow-in had nothing to worry about predicted coach and peer Mark Bradford.

In shifty westerly winds on Sydney Harbour, the fruitful combination of a multi-class Australian champion leading the current national MC38 champion crew produced a two point advantage after four races.

It’s a squeeze at the top of the one design results this afternoon; two points split the first three, Ginger then Menace and Dark Star, with second and third on equal scores.

Palm Beach Sailing Club hosted their annual Princess Regatta on Saturday May 9th combining this annual fun fest with their Fish and Chip run to Patonga.

This year a ‘Georgina’ , ‘Heidi the Hobie Princess’ and a few other bearded princesses put in a good showing. Bona fide princesses were out in force though and it was their day to show how fleet these female pirates can be when they want to.

On April 10th  six great bands, six great sets, four tense judges, 330 screaming fans, proud parents, grandparents and siblings were part of the Finals for the 2015 Northern Composure band competition.

Afterwards the question was ‘Have NEW CAR CAVIAR created history for Northern Composure?’ Bands have taken both Judges and Audience Choice awards before but add Best School Band and School Support Award and they may just have rewritten the record books. This week Pittwater High Schools Principal accepted the award in the school's hall where many a great concert takes place.

May 4th  is St Florian's Day or International Firefighters' Day. St Florian was the Patron Saint of Firefighters. On this St Florian's Day, we give thanks for the selfless dedication and bravery our firefighters show every day, upholding the same commitment to protecting lives and property that St Florian and his first firefighters did in Ancient Roman times.

On Monday, May 4th, two firefighters who braved dangerous conditions in a fuel tanker accident at Mona Vale were among 21 NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) members and 17 units presented awards by Minister for Emergency Services David Elliott MP as part of St Florian's Day 2015 Awards.

In total nine ‎Ingleside‬ volunteers were awarded ‪NSW RFS‬ ‎Commissioners ‬Commendations for ‪Bravery‬, ‎Service‬, Unit Citation and Certificates. Tumbledown Dick RFS, along with the crews of Warringah Pittwater Headquarters 1, Belrose 1A, Belrose 1B, were recognised for their response to this incident and were awarded with Unit Citations and with Certificates of Commendation for their high level of operational support and life saving first aid. Whilst the incident was tragic, our volunteers showed extreme bravery, service and courage that day to protect the community and bystanders and to be recognised officially as volunteers for doing their job is appreciated by these Rural Fire Service Units.
