NSW Premier Chris Minns Visits Pittwater: MVR West Update - Local Fire Stations - Sports Club Facilities discussed

NSW Premier Chris Minns made a whirlwind visit to Pittwater recently at the request of MP for Pittwater Jacqui Scruby - partly to show and celebrate the delivery works underway and announced by his government last budget, including the $500m Mona Vale Road West Upgrade, Narrabeen Sports High School Performance Hall and the $6.7m Narrabeen Sports Track.
Independent MP Jacqui Scruby, Pittwater MP, stated the visit was also twofold as she wanted Premier Minns to witness the infrastructure upgrade needs she continues to advocate for – sports fields and surf clubs, emergency services and other infrastructure like commuter car parks.
The MP for Pittwater said; “I work across party lines to get Pittwater’s issues on the agenda. Last visit the Premier saw Mona Vale Road West and we now have the $500m and project underway. This visit focused on visiting Narrabeen Sports High where a performance centre is about to be built, Narrabeen Athletics track where $6.7m upgrade works are underway as well as highlighting areas needing focus – such as upgrades to our sports amenities and emergency services which have been left neglected for decades.”

Looking after those who look after others was the theme of one of the discussion in the NSW Parliament this past week when on Thursday May 28 Trish Doyle, MP for the Blue Mountains, Parliamentary Secretary for Climate Change, Parliamentary Secretary for Energy, Parliamentary Secretary for the Environment, and Parliamentary Secretary for Heritage and current Member, Legislative Assembly Select Committee on Emergency Services Funding Reform, sought to recognise the outstanding work of Fire and Rescue NSW and the record firefighter recruitment that is strengthening our emergency services.
Ms Scruby stated, in joining in the Motion of commendation of the work being done that;
''I thank the member for Blue Mountains for moving the motion, which I agree with. I am frustrated with the rhetoric that only the Liberals deliver for Pittwater because, when I recently visited three of the Fire and Rescue stations in my electorate, it was quite clear that there is desperate need for a strategic plan for upgrades across all three. The primary rescue unit in Narrabeen has a heavy rescue truck that does not actually fit in the fire station. The unit has other limitations as well; it is one recliner down and lacks a proper transition area to take off clothes that have potentially been contaminated with chemicals.
There have been investments in the station in Avalon, which is great to see, but there are two separate buildings that are problematic to go between, especially at night and when it rains. The station in Mona Vale is also in need of repairs, including roof patching issues and limitations with the retrofitting of women's facilities. The point I make is that, to support recruitment, we need to make sure that the facilities that we provide to Fire and Rescue staff are sufficient for them to be able to do their jobs. Particularly in my area, there needs to be a strategic plan for upgrades across the board.''
Premier Chris Minns visited Mona Vale Fire and Rescue – to meet team and discuss upgrades needed both at Mona Vale and Narrabeen.

The MP for Pittwater is also working to see funding for sports upgrades rolled out across the electorate.
The NIBSC has outlined the need for extended lease to allow the provision of additional basketball courts. Local sports groups that use Hitchcock Park - during the Summer for Cricket and during the Winter for rugby League, have been trying for years to secure support for proper drainage works on what is, in fact, reclaimed wetlands.
In providing a comment for the Mona Vale Raiders Profile which runs this Issue, and which is seeking to have upgraded and expanded facilities, including a change room for females and, finally, a clubhouse, the MP for Pittwater stated:
“Sports and sporting clubs are the heartbeat of our community yet they’ve been neglected for decades. I’m committed to investing the time and energy over the coming years to improve our sports facilities that have been neglected for decades.
The people showing up every weekend deserve facilities that show up for them too. Fixing that means doing the unglamorous work with multiple stakeholders — the meetings, negotiations, and groundwork and getting plans, designs and costing so if a grant opportunity opens, its able to be applied for.
These clubs slip through the cracks – despite having amazing club leadership. Council prioritises spending money where the developer contributions are, like the well deserved and long overdue upgrades to Boondah Reserve. We’ve seen these clubs miss out again in the Council’s rolling 4 year budget.
Although council jurisdiction, I’ve called on the state government to come to the table with additional grant opportunities. I’ve invited the Sports Minister to come to Pittwater and see these sites.’’
The Pittwater MP has also tabled a Notice of Motion which reads:
That this House:
(1) Notes that sport amenity blocks in Pittwater are over 50 years old, at the end of their asset life and no longer fit for purpose.
(2) Notes that many of the fields are regularly closed due to flooding and require drainage and improvement works.
(3) Notes that sports participation is surging, particularly women's participation in traditionally male dominated sports.
(4) Calls on the Government to reinstate Level the Playing Field and other grants programs targeted at local sports facilities with a focus on aged infrastructure and closure rates, rather than spend $300 million on closing the roof on Accor Stadium
Finally the Premier for NSW and the MP for Pittwater visited the Mona Vale Road West site where works are underway at present to investigate sites in the scope of works. The March 2026 update provides details on the work currently underway, which are scheduled to continue into August 2026.
This runs in full below.
The NSW Minns Government will soon start rolling out its pre-budget announcements and then provide the details in full by June 30. An update will run when that is made available.

Upcoming site investigations
From mid-April until late August 2026, weather permitting, we will be carrying out geotechnical investigations from McCarrs Creek Road to Powderworks Road. Geotechnical investigations include:
• Minor vegetation clearing where required for safe access
• Establishing temporary work sites
• Using machinery to cut into the ground
• Scanning for underground services and where required, potholing or digging small trenches to identify existing underground utilities
• Drilling boreholes and digging test holes/pits by hand or with an excavator to check what the ground is like below the surface
• Marking and measuring test pit locations
• Restoring work areas once investigations have been completed.
Please see map for geotechnical investigation locations.
When and where we’ll be working
Where possible, work will occur during standard construction hours between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday. Work will also occur at night from 6pm to 7am to minimise impacts to traffic and/or for the safety of workers and community. Where possible, noisy work near residents will stop by midnight.

Design refinements driven by your feedback
In response to community feedback, we are refining the design to focus on:
• Reducing impacts to private properties
• Reducing impacts to the environment and the amount of vegetation clearing needed
• Creating safer, more convenient access to and from Ingleside
• Improving active travel connections to the Northern Beaches
• Upgrading the McCarrs Creek Road intersection
We’re continuing investigations, surveys and targeted engagement with directly impacted stakeholders over the coming months on these changes.
Soon, we’ll be ready to share the refined design with the wider community and invite your feedback on the proposed improvements.
