Planning has Commenced for the Improvement of Narrabeen Ambulance Station: Update from MP for Pittwater

Independent MP for Pittwater Jacqui Scruby announced on October 27 that planning is underway to replace the Narrabeen Ambulance Station after paramedics walked out late last year due to safety concerns. A new ambulance station will be built on the existing site to boost frontline health infrastructure and support our local paramedics with everything they need.

The ambulance station is set to be demolished by the end of December with construction set to commence in 2027. It is one of the 30 ambulance stations being constructed across NSW in the coming years, funded by the latest NSW Budget.

The project will optimise paramedic response times and support critical lifesaving care, provide a better working environment for local paramedics, and better meet the current and future demand for emergency medical care in Narrabeen and beyond.

“The Narrabeen Ambulance station has been in an unacceptable state for decades and the community is very happy that we will have a redeveloped site in Narrabeen, having fought off the initial decision to relocate it to Dee Why," Ms Scruby said.

“On a peninsula on the outskirts of Sydney, we simply can’t leverage the radius of available ambulances - we are one road in, one road out and Narrabeen must be a viable place for our health workers to reside.

It is great to have the prospect of a new space for our paramedics in our future and I look forward to working with the Narrabeen Ambulance Station team to ensure they have everything they need to continue to serve our community,” Ms Scruby concluded.

The local community will continue to have 24/7 ambulance coverage during planning and construction of the new Narrabeen Ambulance Station.

In November 2025 the existing site at 1391 Pittwater Road was confirmed as the most suitable location to optimise response performance and meet the future emergency health needs of the community following an extensive land search across Dee Why and the LGA.

All sites are evaluated based on size, location, access and traffic considerations, and other factors that may influence development timelines and costs.

Locations for new stations are determined by NSW Ambulance following a comprehensive service planning process using best practice modelling software which maps Triple Zero calls.

The new ambulance station will feature internal parking for up to 10 emergency ambulance vehicles, vehicle wash facilities, administration, multipurpose and logistics spaces, as well as staff amenities.

NSW Minister for Health, the Hon. Ryan Park, stated last November:

“The new Narrabeen Ambulance Station will support local paramedics to provide the best emergency and mobile medical care to the local community well into the future.

“This is a great outcome for the surrounding communities with the existing site to be completely redeveloped to provide a modern and purpose-built facility to support our hardworking paramedics as they deliver high-quality emergency and mobile medical care.

“More ambulance stations, more paramedics, faster response times and better patient outcomes – a win for our community and a win for our hard-working paramedics.”

Independent Member for Wakehurst Michael Regan said:

“Our local paramedics need the right resources to do their job. This announcement of a brand new station for Narrabeen is a big step in the right direction.

“A new ambulance station for the Northern Beaches is desperately needed and has been a long time coming. I want to thank local NSW Ambulance staff for their patience. For them, it will mean a modern fit-for-purpose workplace. For Northern Beaches residents, it means a better resourced local ambulance service to deliver and provide access to healthcare when we need it most.

“I look forward to seeing the new station up and running as soon as possible.”

Chief Executive NSW Ambulance Dominic Morgan said:

“This new purpose-built ambulance station at Narrabeen will ensure our paramedics have the modern facilities to support, the delivery of world-class emergency care to the Northern Beaches community.

“A new Narrabeen station will provide a comfortable, functional and modern environment for our dedicated staff, which we know makes a real difference to morale and wellbeing.”
