Residents Toast New-Look Community Centre at Aveo's Bayview Gardens

by Georgia Tayler

Northern Beaches Council Mayor Sue Heins joined Bayview residents, families and the wider community on Wednesday September 30 to celebrate the major refurbishment that has created a new local hub for dining, fitness, creativity and social connection, in upgraded facilities at Aveo's Bayview Gardens.

The reopening was also a chance to meet residents Jill and Gary, who have called Bayview Gardens home for more than 11 years and are deeply involved in the community.

Jill welcomes new residents and supports the community café, while Gary has served as treasurer of the residents’ association and helped create regular men’s coffee catch-ups and gym sessions.

Jill and Gary were looking forward to the positive impact  the new facilities would have on the village.

“When we first walked across the bridge into the rainforest here, we knew this was a special place. It’s so beautiful and natural, with the trees and the elevated setting. You really feel like you’re in a beautiful part of the world,” Jill said.

The extensive upgrade features a modern dining room and lounge, private dining area, stylish café, arts and crafts room, activities room, hair salon, indoor swimming pool and gym, library, BBQ and alfresco area, and a new internal lift, giving residents more ways to connect, stay active and enjoy village life.

“The community centre is at the heart of life at Bayview Gardens. It gives residents a place to meet, enjoy a coffee or meal, take part in activities and spend time with friends. The refurbishment has created a beautiful, modern space for everyone to enjoy.”

“One of the things we value most about Bayview Gardens is the way people look out for one another. We’ve made very good friends here, and we keep an eye on each other – if someone isn’t well, people notice and help out,” Gary said.

“The new facilities will make it even easier for residents to come together, whether that is for lunch, an activity, a celebration or simply a conversation.”

Mayor Heins joined residents to celebrate the opening of the new community hub.

Residents and guests enjoy refreshments during the opening of the new facilities
