Local photographer reveals a new wave perspective on South Curl Curl Rockpool in new exhibition 'Immersed' at Manly Library

Marion Wheeler, of Manly Vale, sets a new wave perspective with her photographic exhibition called 'Immersed' at Manly Library.

Her spectacular shots of the break crashing over camera are set to thrill visitors to this evocative show.

"It's all about timing. There's a single moment to get a single shot before nature crashes over your head," explained Marion, an award winning photographer who's been capturing the natural world.

"It was one of the most challenging projects I've ever tackled. I was fully immersed in the water with my handheld camera bearing the full brunt of the waves crashing over me to capture that elusive moment when the wave is perfectly arced, a liquid sculpture for a split second above, which then smashed over my head.

"There were moments when I wondered if I'd come out the other side in one piece. One time I was swept down the pool with the force of a 3 meter breaker - tumbling under water, breath held, goggles lost but I got the shot and wisely decided that was enough for one day."

"The shots reflect my love of the ocean, its force and form. It's the architecture of the Northern Beaches and is endlessly fascinating. I hope other locals who share my passion will enjoy the exhibition, as much as I did taking the photos."

With over 20 years photography experience, Marion Wheeler is renowned for capturing outstanding images celebrating people and place. Marion is a freelance photographer specialising in performance and corporate events, portraits and architecture.

Based in Sydney, and having exhibited in Hong Kong and Sydney, Marion uses a range of cameras and lenses, old style film and digital techniques to bring life to her images.
