On Friday October 29 Council opened for feedback its Design and Plan of Managment (POM) proposals for Lynne Czinner Park at Warriewood.

Mayor Michael Regan said Lynne Czinner Park concept plan has been developed in consultation with the Warriewood Residents Association and local families, including the late Lynne Czinner, with a view to providing a large open space that can be enjoyed by Warriewood families.

"The draft includes new picnic areas, a bridge across Fern Creek connecting to Rocket Ship Playground, a bike pump track and tree planting and landscaping.

"The Park is also a great example of developer contributions at work, funding open space for the local community to enjoy following land release.

“When complete, it will be a fitting tribute to the late Lynne Czinner, the former Mayor of Pittwater Council, and a strong and passionate environmental advocate.”

Lynne Czinner campaigned to protect the Warriewood wetlands and escarpment. She was instrumental in ensuring there was an interconnected network of open spaces as part of the development of the Warriewood Valley land release.

At its meeting in September 2020 Council resolved to find an "appropriate location for a memorial in [Lynne's] honour”. In consultation with Ms Czinner’s family, it was decided that naming the reserves at Fern Creek Warriewood would be a fitting recognition of Lynne’s contributions.

There is a playground in the reserve affectionately known as Rocket Park. The name of the playground will not change.

Council recently acquired parcels of land off Fern Creek Road and together with Rocket Ship Playground they form Lynne Czinner Park.

The draft Plan of Management (POM) for Lynne Czinner park sets out how the land is intended to be used, managed, maintained and enhanced in the future.

The site's significant recreational open space is divided by Fern Creek, a riparian zone and buffer area. The POM therefore proposes three land categories: Park, Natural Area (watercourse) and Natural Area (bushland).

Council is also seeking feedback on its proposal for the plan of management for Wyatt Bike Park in Belrose.

Mayor Regan said the Wyatt Bike Park concept was to create a junior bike park to complement the more advanced Bare Creek Bike Park nearby.

“Our aim is to provide an entry level track that complements the local natural environment.

“This, and the addition of a bike track at Lynne Czinner Park is part of our plan to increase opportunities for young riders of different skill levels across the LGA and reduce the creation and use of illegal bushland tracks which can cause irreparable environmental damage.

“Our initial consultation with the community was largely positive and we have used that feedback to develop a specific Plan of Management for the park.

“I encourage the community to look at the plans for both the parks, Warriewood and Belrose, and provide us with feedback.”

Council will hold public hearings for both parks during the public exhibition period as required under the Act.

The Lynne Czinner Park draft Plan of Management and Concept Design went on public exhibition on Friday, 29 October.

Both can be viewed on Council's Your Say website.
