Avalon Beach SLSC's 100th Annual General Meeting
by Roger Sayers OAM, Life Member ABSLSC
Among the many surf club activities that continue during the off season, July is when the Club holds its AGM to elect the Club Board of Management and office bearers, and to present its annual report to members, relevant authorities and the community.
This year's Centenary AGM was held at the Surf Club on Sunday 27 July 2025.
In the early days AGMs were held in the city. Members and guests are more fortunate now. Our Clubhouse is a more convenient location than 16 Hunter St Sydney!
As part the Club's Centenary celebrations, all the Club's historical records have been placed on its website for public access.
Available at: avalonbeachslsc.com.au/club-documents. Click on Historical Annual Reports.
These record and celebrate the Club's achievements, successes and activities over the years, starting from the earliest available 1945-46.
Past and present members, their families and community members can look up their own involvement and achievements and recall happy memories.
A scan just through the Annual Report covers for each decade also tells a story of progress from basic printed Annual Reports through to more recent comprehensive print and online publications.
They give historical snapshots of the Club's history and significant events up to the present, for celebration by the whole Avalon Beach community.

Attending the AGM were the Club's Patrons The Hon Bronwyn Bishop and John Brogden, who both praised the Club's successes and spoke highly of its important role in the community.
The Hon. Bronwyn Bishop AO, Club Patron, shared her delight in being able to attend the AGM this year to express her deep gratitude for the services provided by our Club volunteers throughout the 2024/25 patrolling season which has resulted in another year with 0 lives lost. Ms Bishop attributed this to the extensive and attentive efforts of all patrolling members, the exhaustive efforts of the Education Team in ensuring our Club continues to attain such high standards, the Club’s Nippers program which continues to both foster engagement with the local community and ensures the Club will continue to grow and provide lifesaving support for many more decades.
Finally, she acknowledged that all this is not possible without the guidance and direction of the Board of Management.
Bobby Head, Chair of the Life Members Committee, led everyone singing Happy Birthday.
