Australian Longboard Titles Return To The Tweed Coast: 22nd - 27th July 2025

The Thermos Australian Longboard Titles are just over a day away! As the longest running event on the Australian Calendar and with athletes representing all six surfing states, the stage has been set and ISA Qualification is on the line in the Open Men and Women divisions for a chance to join The Irukandjis Australian National Surfing Team.

The event will run consecutively in the Tweed Coast from Duranbah in the North to Hastings Point in the South.

Surfing Australia Contest Director Glen Elliott says longboarding captures the heart and history of the sport: "Longboard surfing is where it all began, mastering a 9 foot board shows the true art and all the traditional elements of our sport.

The Australian Longboard Surfing Championships consists of all of the age divisions starting with the masters Over 40 through to the Grand Legends over 70's in Men and Women's divisions. We finish this celebration of Australian Longboarding with our hotly contested Open and junior divisions on the weekend.

This event embodies the spirit of longboarding. It's about family, fraternity, and the joy of old friends and making new connections"

Legends will be made, and legacies continued. It’s a rare opportunity to see multiple generations of surfers compete side by side, from seasoned champions to emerging talent.

Two champions returning in 2025 with fresh goals, pride, and family in tow are Tony Abood and Josh Constable.

O65 Men Reigning champion and Tweed Coast local, Tony Abood (Kingscliff, NSW), is excited to defend his title against some of his oldest friends: "Surfing in the Australian Surf Championships is a great experience, it’s a community like no other! It’s fun, it’s inspiring, and it gives your that opportunity to put your skills and stamina to the test to create the perfect ride .

Wining the ASC title in the 065s last year at my home break (Cabarita), well it doesn’t get any better than that! It was one of those special moments that I'll treasure for life!"

O40 Men Reigning champion and professional surfboard shaper, Josh Constable (Noosa Heads, QLD), will be competing with his son, Jive Constable: "The Tweed Coast offers such a great variety of surf this time of year. I'm looking forward to defending my title and more importantly being down there to support my son, Jive, in the juniors, hopefully he can go one better an clench his first Australian title.

I'm gunning for a win in the Open Men's division to secure a spot on the ISA longboard team, it's going to be challenging, but hopefully it turns out the way we hope."

Two athletes to watch are Clinton Guest (Bokarina, QLD) and Jason Livingston (North Curl Curl, NSW).

Guest recently represented 'The Irukandjis' Australian National Surfing Team at the 2025 ISA World Longboard Championships in El Salvador, where he finished ninth in the world and posted both the highest scoring wave (9.93) and the highest heat total (19.10) of the entire event. He’ll be chasing a national title in the Open Men’s division this year.

"Representing Australia at the ISA World Longboard Games this year was a career highlight. It was really special to walk away with the highest wave score of the event and memories that will last a lifetime.

This will be my 18th consecutive ASC. I’ve always enjoyed the challenge of surfing different locations against some of the best surfers in Australia and around the world. I’ve been refining my equipment and training hard since last year, so I’m excited to see where things land, especially with the WSL Longboard Tour events on the horizon."

Livingston is arguably the most decorated surfer in the field, with an incredible 15 Australian Championship titles to his name.

The O50 Men + O55 Men reigning champion can't wait to return to the Tweed Coast and defend his titles: “I love surfing right-hand point breaks, and Cabarita is a gem. The Tweed Coast is the perfect battleground - there are so many great waves, with plenty of options, plus warm water and good weather.

I’m looking forward to catching up with my fellow competitors and friends from around the country - and having a crack at defending my Aussie titles.”

Pitting all six surfing states against one another, the Thermos Australian Longboard Titles draw dedicated competitors from across the country — many of whom make the annual pilgrimage for what’s become their favourite event of the year.

John Amos (Goolwa, SA) has made the drive up from from South Australia to compete for countless years: "Traveling from South Australia is our annual camping and surfing safari. Escaping South Australia’s winter chilling waters to surf northern NSW pristine beaches and point breaks, staying at beautiful national parks with ocean views is always a great experience.

The competition and the surfing are at the heart of it all, but it’s the friendships I’ve made over the past decade that keep me coming back. It’s my favourite event of the year!”

Leading the charge for Victoria in the Open Men’s Division are brothers Sam and Tas Dunton, who were taught to surf as toddlers by their mother, Jann Dunton — the 1999 Australian National Champion, crowned at their local break, Bells Beach.

Jann has competed for over 40 years and will accompany her boys to this year's event.

“I started competing at 28 to meet other female surfers who were just as obsessed with surfing as I was. These days, women are everywhere in the lineup — and their presence is truly recognised. It’s such a buzz to sometimes share waves with more women than men. Women’s longboarding brings its own unique style, elegance, and grace.

My boys have always respected women in the water, and I’m proud to be one of the matriarchs of this magic sport.

The ASC brings surfers from all over the country together. Lifelong friendships are made, and for many, earning a spot in this prestigious event is the highlight of their year.”

With history on its side and the future on the rise, and ISA qualification up for grabs, the Thermos Australian Longboard Titles continue to set the benchmark for longboard surfing in Australia.

As generations of surfers converge on the Tweed Coast to write the next chapter in this iconic event’s rich history, it promises not only standout performances, but the kind of memories and friendships that define a lifetime in the water.
