August 18th/2019): Perfect 2ft wedgy waves gave competitors the perfect platform to show their skills at Leticia Spit on the far north end of Fingal on the Tweed Coast today for the 2019 nudie Australian Adaptive Surfing Titles as part of this year’s SAE Group Australian Surf Championships.

Adaptive surfing icon Mark ‘Mono’ Stewart was in first-class form, taking out the MIXED - (AS2 / AS3 / SUP) Division with two cracking waves, racking up a total of 16.25 points in the final.

“It’s great to see Surfing Australia putting wave quality first over access to the beach and including us in the Australian Surf Championships. That’s a real step forward for our sport. The young people getting involved is also great to see. I’ve never surfed here before (Leticia Spit) it’s a great spot,” said Stewart.

August 20th, 2019
by Surfing New South Wales

Four new Australian Longboard and Logger Champions were crowned today at Duranbah Beach today following an exciting day of action in playful two-to-three foot waves.

Two-times World Longboard Champion Harley Ingleby (Emerald Beach, NSW) added another stellar result to his already overflowing portfolio of results, taking out the Open Men’s division. Ingleby – who claimed his last Australian Title in Coffs Harbour in 2016 – put on an excellent performance in the final, posting a 15.00 two-wave heat total to get the edge against runner-up Nic Jones (Buderim, Qld) by a tiny 0.35 margin. The victory is Ingleby’s fourth Australian Open Men’s Title.

Clinton Guest (Burleigh Waters, Qld) claimed his second Open Men’s Logger Title in as many years, taking out the highly competitive division. Guest surfed to the criteria over the duration of the final, stylish executing a variety of drawn-out carves and nose-rides. Guest was rewarded with a giant 17.75 two-wave heat total to take the win ahead of Open Men’s Longboard Champion Harley Ingleby who finished in the runner-up position.

Emily Lethbridge (Noosaville, Qld) dazzled the Open Women’s competition claiming the coveted Australian Title only 200 meters away from her home state.  Lethbridge remained one of the standout performers over the entirety of the Open Women’s division never losing a heat and continually posting excellent scores. Lethbridge hit her peak in the final when she notched up a solid 15.50 two-wave heat total to leave her closest rival requiring a 9.16 to take away her lead.

ELDER DIVISIONS SHINE AS 2019 AUSTRALIAN LONGBOARD TITLES RETURN TO DURANBAH

August 22, 2019
by Surfing New South Wales

The age divisions of the 2019 Australian Longboard Titles got underway in picturesque two-foot surf at Duranbah today.

Ben Dickens (Lennox Head, NSW) showed why he was a multiple Australian Title holder as he proceeded to decimate the righthanders on offer in his opening Over-40 Men’s heat.  Dickens performed an array of nice turns and stylish nose rides to post an excellent 8.00 wave score which allowed him to gain the upper hand in the heat. As a result of Surfing Australia’s new and improved seeded format, Dickens will bypass the second round and make his next appearance in the third round.

Joining Dickens with an Over-40 Men’s first-round victory was Jay Carter (Wooli, NSW), Nigel Canterbury (Grange, Qld) and Chris Mcsween (Ocean Grove, Vic).

Living only just across the NSW border, Kristy Best (Coolangatta, Qld) showed her knowledge of the Duranbah conditions as she attacked her first heat of the Over-40 Women. Best used her impressive backhand approach to muster up a decent 14.50 two-wave heat total which allowed her to claim the win.

Mandy Penhall (Mitchell Island, NSW) and Sam Vanderford (Scarborough, WA) also put on decent showings in the Over-40 Women's division to claim first-round heat wins.

Perennial Australian Title standouts Simon Gates (Brunswick Heads, NSW) and Greg Brown (Jan Juc, Vic) made their presence known as they attacked the Over-55 Men's division, with both surfers posting decent scores in the mid-seven point range to claim respective heat wins. Both surfers will make their next appearance in the third round.

In an Australian first, the Australian Longboard Titles is being Head Judged by former Women's World Longboard Champion Tory Gilkerson. Gilkerson brings a wealth of knowledge to the role and will oversee the entire eight days of longboard competition.

2019 AUSTRALIAN LONGBOARD TITLES MOVES TO KINGSCLIFF FOR ALL ROUND THREE ACTION

August 23rd, 2019
By Surfing New South Wales

The SAE Group Australian Surf Championships burnt through its fourteenth day of competition today with the age divisions of the Australian Longboard Titles recommencing in challenging three-foot conditions at Kingscliff Beach.

Former Australian Champion Jason Livingston (Curl Curl, NSW) put on the same display of surfing that seen him win multiple titles in the past, clocking up wins in the third round of the Over-45 and Over-50 Men’s division. Livingston shone in the dual divisions, posting decent wave scores in the seven-point range to gain the upper hand against his opposition. Livingston will make his next appearance in the quarterfinals.

Scott Dorrough (Tweed Heads, NSW) and Ryan Egan (Meadow Springs, WA) kept their Over-40 Logger campaigns going, with both surfers taking heat wins. Both surfers found a handful of above-average waves that allowed them to get the edge over their opponents and gain a spot in their third round.

Greg Brown (Jan Juc, Vic) showed why he was a multiple Australian Title holder, surfing a solid battle in the Over-50 Men’s division. Brown performed a handful of his trademark hacks over the course of his third-round heat to take the win and cement a spot into the quarterfinals.

Interstate competitors Emma Webb (Jan Juc, Vic), Sam Vanderford (Scarborough, WA) and Kristy Quirk (Noosaville, Qld) made light work of the sweepy conditions, all claiming third-round wins in the Over-40 Women’s divisions. All competitors found a handful of long-running righthanders to gain the wins and earn themselves a spot into the semi-finals.

Monday 26th August 2019
by Surfing New South Wales

After a giant 17 days of action in the Tweed, the SAE Group Australian Surf Championships wrapped up today at Duranbah Beach with 12 new Australian Champions being crowned at the Australian Longboard and Logger Titles.

Scott Trew (Gabbadah, WA) ensured an Australian Title would cross the continent, taking out the Over-40 Men’s Logger Titles. Trew put on a dominant display of traditional surfing to post a solid 15.50 two-wave heat total, which left his fellow finalists requiring two-wave combinations to take away his lead. The win is Western Australia’s first title of the 2019 SAE Group Australian Surf Championships.

Emma Webb (Jan Juc, NSW) added another Australian Title to her already stellar portfolio, taking out the Over-40 Women’s division. Webb shone in the final, performing a handful of critical turns and stylish nose rides to post a decent 12.25 two-wave heat total and get nod ahead of Queensland's Kirsty Quirk (Noosaville, Qld), Kirsty Best (Coolangatta, Qld) and Peppie Simpson (Cooroibah, Qld) who claimed second, third and fourth respectively.

Jason Livingston (Curl Curl, NSW) etched his name into the 2019 SAE Group Australian Surf Championships history books, being the only surfer to claim two divisions. Livingston put on a dominant display of surfing across the Over-45 and Over-50 Men’s finals to claim the top spot in both divisions with massive heat totals. Over the course of the event, Livingston remained undefeated, winning every heat he surfed.

Leith Goebel (North Stradbroke, Qld) backed up yesterday’s stellar performance with another amazing performance in the Over-60 Women’s division. In a similar fashion to the first round of the division yesterday, Goebel nailed an excellent two-wave heat total in the 17-point range, which left her fellow finalists requiring two-wave combinations to take away her lead.
