The NSW School Surfing Titles wrapped up today with eight new champions being crowned across all divisions.

Jay Brown (Cronulla) dominated the Under-19 Boys All-Stars division, executing a variety of technical carves and innovative wraps to nab a 9.43 and an 8.83 which resulted in an excellent 18.26 two-wave heat total. The Woolworths NSW Junior Titles pres. by Ocean and Earth saw four new NSW junior champions crowned today following a series of impressive finals in slow, but decent one-foot waves.

Northern Beaches natural-footer Jamie Thomson (Narrabeen) put on an impressive display of backside surfing in the Under-18 Boys smashing out a two-wave heat total of 15.00. Thomson – who won his last NSW Title back in the Under-12 division – linked together a chain of solid backhand snaps to get the victory ahead of 2018 Under-16 Champion Mike Clayton-Brown (Corlette) by a 0.87 margin. All four finalists have qualified for the Australian Junior Titles which will be held in Western Australia at the end of the year, while Thomson also claimed an NSW wildcard into the WSL Qualifying Series 6000 rated divisions of 2020 Newcastle Surfest.

Charli Hurst (Port Kembla) synced her impressive forehand repertoire to the playful lefthanders on offer, taking out the Under-16 Girls division. Hurst shone in the final, performing a handful of powerful wraps and turns to finish the heat with a 14.63 two-wave heat total and claim the victory ahead of Kasey Hargreaves (Stanwell Park), Nyxie Ryan (Lennox Head) and Elle Clayton-Brown (Corlette) who claimed second third and fourth respectively. Much like the boys division, all four finalists have qualified for the Australian Junior Titles,  while Hurst also claimed an NSW wildcard into the WSL Qualifying Series 6000 rated divisions of 2020 Newcastle Surfest.

Lennix Smith (Barrack Heights) ensured another title would make its way back to the Illawarra, taking top honours in the Under-16 Boys. Smith put on an impeccable performance in the final, nailing a mammoth 17.44 two-wave heat total for a series of decent backside snaps. Fellow finalist, Jarvis Earle (Cronulla) remained hot on Smith’s tail, finishing a mere 0.04 points behind Smith, but was unable to find the score required to take away Smith’s lead. All four finalists have qualified for the Australian Junior Titles, while Smith also claimed a wildcard into an NSW based WSL Qualifying Series 1000 rated event in 2020.

Cali Barrett (Banora Point) put on a commanding performance in the Under-16 Girls, performing a mix of exciting forehand snaps and carves. Barrett put herself in a dominant position posting a 8.17 wave score and a 7.5 wave score to amass a solid 15.67 two-wave heat total to claim the win. All four Under-16 Girls finalists have qualified for the Australian Junior Titles, while Barrett also claimed wildcard into an NSW based WSL Qualifying Series 1000 rated event in 2020.

The Ocean and Earth Performer of the Event awards were awarded to Joel Vaughan (Bateau Bay) and Nyxie Ryan (Lennox Head) for their overall performance over the duration of the event, while Olly Bolton was awarded the AirAsia Big Air Award for a giant full-rotation air-reverse he stuck on the opening day of competition.
